Crossgate Church in Preston was resounding with the voices of 250 Key Stage 2 children from schools across the area on 5th June, taking part in Lancashire Music Hub’s Lancashire Sings event.
Children from 7 primary schools across the area entertained their families and friends, with a programme of songs from around the world entitled “Olympic Spirit” accompanied by a live band.
Emma Williams, Lancashire Music Service’s Vocal Lead said “This year we have over 3500 children and over 100 schools involved in our Lancashire Sings! events. The benefits of singing are widely known and bringing local schools together as a musical community to sing alongside inspirational musicians and sharing their skills with audiences from their community, creates long lasting musical memories and hopefully a lifelong love for singing.”
The singers were conducted by Vocal Leader Charlie Brown who said “I remember loving taking part in a similar scheme when I was at school. The memory of it has stuck with me, so I jumped at the opportunity to share that experience with others. I hope it will be the first of many!”
Here’s what the choir of Holy Family Catholic School had to say.
“It was amazing. I absolutely loved it”.
“I really liked singing with all my friends and enjoying ourselves. It was the best time ever and all of the songs were delightful.”
“I loved it, and it made me feel more passionate to sing.”
Thank you to all the schools that took part!
