Lancashire Orchestras Residential Course…

Earlier this month our Lancashire Youth Symphony Orchestra (LYSO) had a great experience on their annual weekend residential, this year at Castlehead, Grange-over-Sands

The players and team arrived on a Friday evening smoothly with no mishaps! After some much needed dinner the young players  started work on the famous piece by the Czech Composer, Dvorák 8. The players made a great start in sectionals of brass, woodwind and percussion together, making good progress, as were the strings.

Saturday brought on the real hard work, with everyone giving it their best in sectionals and rehearsals, and they made fantastic progress throughout the day, with an invigorating team building competition which helps develop the players camaraderie during the weekend.

Since the players did so well with the tricky  Dvorák 8, it time to relax and play The Greatest Showman medley, something the players love to play and have fun with. Saturday ended with a fun quiz which everyone enjoyed. On Sunday after sessions and practice the day ended with the mini showcase! It was then time to head home and get some much needed rest.

“The players always make incredible progress over a residential weekend,  they all grow and develop as musicians but also as a team, which builds for a solid ensemble and why we place so much value on our residential weekends. Its only made possible thanks to all the music tutors, players and players parents who support the trip, its a wonderfully heartwarming team effort!” Helen Herrison, LYSO Music Director
